On a rescue operation for 44 refugees in total, who were trapped in a rocky region of Samos, three members of the Hellenic Rescue Team participated together with volunteers of the Swedish organisation SSRS.
In particular, today at 11.30 in the morning the port authority of Samos informed the SSRS, which assists in rescue operations at the island with two vessels and in cooperation with the department of the Hellenic Rescue Team on the island, about the incident. At once departed the two vessels for the area “Hondro Vouno”, where they spotted 11 trapped refugees, who stated that they had been there from the previous afternoon. The members of the HRT together with their Swedish colleagues conducted research in the surrounding area, where they located another 33 people.
The refugees boarded on the vessels with the rescuers’ assistance and, after they were given the first aid from the members of the HRT, they were transported to the harbor of Pythagoreio. Two of them, the first one with symptoms of hypothermia and the second one with a fracture, were transferred directly to the hospital with the ambulance.
