HRT Lesvos assisted in transferring safely refugees ashore
Date: 22/02/2016
HRT Lesvos was alarmed on Saturday morning, February 20th, by the Coast Guard to help and ensure the safe transfer of refugees who were floating with plastic boats towards Lesvos.
HRT Lesvos rescuers assisted with the transfer of women with babies from the plastic boats to a Frontex vessel which was in the area.
Right after that mission, HRT Lesvos rescue boat towed and transferred all the destroyed dinghies in certain areas of the island for the local authorities to collect and destroy them. The rescue missions ended at 18:00, but the HRT branch remains on guard 24/7, due to the increased refugee flows.
Lesvos HRT branch would like to warmly thank the captain of the OPV 080 Hellenic Coast Guard vessel and crew for their trust.
