On Monday 22/02/2016, Civil Protection informed Hellenic Rescue Team’s Kozani branch that 7 buses carrying almost 350 refugees, left from Eidomeni due to border closure and were heading to the city of Kozani where the refugees would be sheltered temporarily to Lefkovrisi, Kozani sports hall.
Immediately, HRT branch coordinated a group of 20 volunteers and headed to the sports hall where the refugees found shelter.
The response of people, local authorities, the church, scout members and other volunteer groups was huge.
Trucks with humanitarian aid were arriving constantly.
Members of Hellenic Rescue Team’s branch were helping in food distribution and in providing First Aid where needed.
The members will work on shifts 24/7 for as long as refugees arrive at the city of Kozani.
