Hellenic Rescue Team receives this year’s “Mother Teresa” award for Social Justice

Hellenic Rescue Team is proud to announce that it will be awarded with this year’s “Mother Teresa” award (www.motherteresaawards.org), hosted by the Harmony Foundation, for its volunteers rescue work during the refugee crisis in Greece, which resulted in protecting thousands of human lives, seeking for a better future.

As mentioned in Harmony Foundation’s invitation “HRT is awarded for displaying to the world the true essence of humanitarianism through the life changing work it does across the world and for being the proud recipient of UNHCR's Nansen Refugee Award-2016. We salute your strong leadership and HRT's committed, compassionate and courageous humanitarian work in dangerous and challenging regions of the world. We salute the heroic actions of HRT volunteers where they risked their lives to rescue the refugees and migrants arriving from Aegean Sea and we laud the sheer bravery of the volunteers who are tirelessly working in these crisis areas”.

The award ceremony will be hosted in Mumbai, India, on December 10th 2017 and HRT will be represented by its president, Mrs Danai-Foteini Mavroudi.
The Harmony Foundation hosts the Mother Teresa Memorial Awards for Social Justice 2017, which is in its 13th year. This award is the only such award endorsed by Sister Prema, the Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata, and was started in the memory of Mother Teresa, to honor those who have excelled in various humanitarian endeavors. The Award was first instituted in the year 2005.

Each year individuals or organisations receive award for exceptional service to humanity; past recipients include global leaders and icons as Nobel laureates Ms. Malala Yousafzai and H.H.Dalai Lama; current Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo; former Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohamad; former Deputy Speaker of  the United Kingdom’s House of Lords Baroness Caroline Cox and Aid Groups like Medecines Sans Frontieres and White Helmets, which is currently providing aid to war-ravaged Syria.
