Join the largest volunteer rescue organization in Greece! Together, we can save more lives and stand by those who need us the most. If you want to help, offer your support, and at the same time develop new skills, we are here to train and guide you. Our team consists of people who share a common passion: helping others.
A prerequisite for joining our team as a volunteer is training.
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to participate in the Basic Training School. In Thessaloniki, it takes place every October and lasts about 2.5 months. Throughout the year, training schools are also organized at our branches across Greece. During the training, aspiring rescuers gain essential knowledge in all fields of rescue operations: mountain rescue, water rescue, urban and non-urban environments, natural disasters.
See below detailed information about the training school in Thessaloniki. If you wish to attend a course at one of our branches, please contact us and we will provide you with full details.
Every October in Thessaloniki, the School of Self-Protection and Emergency Preparedness takes place. It lasts for one month and is open to all civilians. During the School, free courses are offered, giving you the opportunity to learn how to protect yourself and those around you, as well as to acquire essential knowledge on the prevention and management of emergency situations.
Once you have completed the School of Self-Protection and Emergency Preparedness and have decided that you wish to become a volunteer in HRT, you continue with the Basic Training School (Rescue School), which begins immediately afterwards and lasts for an additional month and a half. The School includes both theoretical and practical courses, ensuring that trainees gain comprehensive knowledge in all areas of rescue: mountain, water, and urban or non-urban environments in cases of natural disasters.
In addition to classroom learning, trainees participate in practical sessions in areas such as: First Aid, Disaster Prevention and Response, Safe Hiking and Climbing, Meteorology, Navigation and Orientation, Climbing and Nautical Knots, Sea Rescue and Survival Techniques, Radio Use and Communication
After completing the School and acquiring the necessary skills, you are ready to become a Hellenic Rescue Team volunteer! You receive a Certificate of Attendance and then choose the department you wish to join, continuing with more specialized training.
