Shipwreck with dead people at Kos island

Date: 17/11/2015
Shipwreck with dead people at Kos island

A new tragedy with so far nine dead refugees (there are still three people missing) took place today in the early hours of the morning at Kos island.

Specifically, at around 02.40 in the morning sounded the alarm from the Port Authority about the location of a boat’s shipwreck with refugees that was capsized in the sea area of Saint Fokas, at Psalidi.

At the area rushed volunteers of the Hellenic Rescue Team at once with their rescue boat and they assisted in the provision of first aid to the survivors and in their transportation to the hospital. At the spot was already the Port Authority, as well as a rescue helicopter.

According to the first evidence an eight-year-old girl, who unfortunately lost her life, her mother and another woman were located and transferred already to the morgue of Kos. Subsequently, six more bodies of children and women were collected.

In total, seven refugees were rescued, who were transferred to the hospital of Kos with symptoms of hypothermia, while, as previously mentioned, another three people are still missing.
