Hellenic Rescue Team, Kozani Annex participated in missing female climber’s research in the mountainous region of Xirolimni (Dry lake) Kozani.
Specifically, on Monday, September 21st, at 16.25, the Greek Police notified the Kozani Annex of the Hellenic Rescue Team, of a missing female climber at the Xirolimni region. The fifty-eight year old woman had gone mountain hiking in the morning and around noon she called a relative of hers and told them she had fallen in a harsh area, without being able to determine her exact spot, so she asked for help.
At 17:45, 14 members of the Kozani Annex were already at the research area and in collaboration with the Fire Brigade, the Hellenic Police, the Western Macedonia Executive Director of Civil Protection, the Association of Veteran Commandos, the E.D.O. Ptolemais and local residents, undertook research.
At 19.26 HRT members and a firefighter spotted the missing woman. They immediately provided first aid, then carried her on a stretcher from the steep and with dense vegetation area where she had fallen, to the ambulance. The woman was transferred to Kozani General Hospital "Mamatseio", accompanied with members and a doctor of the Hellenic Rescue Team Kozani Annex, where, despite the hard efforts of doctors, the unfortunate climber passed away the morning after.
The Kozani HRT operated in the event with a total of 19 people and 5 vehicles.
