One more accident with dead refugees in Kos

Nine refugees, including two children, drawned on Wednesday dawn in Ammoglossa area, in Kos.

HRT Kos was alarmed by the Civil Protection Authorities at 07.00 am and it was requested from our volunteers to assist in the search operation with the rescue boat "Norway 1". Soon after the alarm, eight rescuers were out in the sea and just 40 minutes after the fcall, "Norway's 1" crew spotted and recovered a woman's body. One of the refugees who was on the plastic boat that submerged managed to get ashore and get help and the Turkish Coast Guard rescued a woman.

The HRT crew transfered the body by boat to Kos port and, afterwards, to the hospital.

Right after this mission, HRT rescuers were requested to assist to one more search operation ashore and, afterwards, with the transfer of three bodies from the Hellenic Coastguard vessel to the hospital. HRT members assisted in this transfer, but they also assisted in transfering a 2.5 years old child-that was rescued- from the Frontex vessel to the hospital.

Hellenic Coast Guard, Frontex vessels and a Super Puma helicopter participated in the above search missions.

A rescuer from HRT's sister organization, the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, RS, also participated in the above missions.
